Second UNESCO UCI Groundwater Conference, 30 November – 3 December 2011

The UNESCO International Hydrological Programme (IHP), together with the University of California Irvine (UCI), California, and in cooperation with the US Geological Survey, the Orange County Water District, the Center for Hydrologic Modeling UC Irvine and the Irvine Ranch Water Districtwill convene the Second UNESCO UCI Groundwater Conference at Irvine, California, on 30 November – 3 December 2011. The Conference objectives are:

  • Share innovative methods to help alleviate clean-water scarcity and improve groundwater storage in semi-arid areas
  • Explore mechanisms to foster international cooperation for implementation of best practices on groundwater management
  • Promote methodologies for groundwater resources management to cope with climate change, natural disasters, and water-related hazards
  • Formulate relevant scientific and policy recommendations for sustainable groundwater management and governance
  • Present the Conference main findings at the 6th World Water Forum and the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD)
