An article by AIDA member Keith Hayward,‘Going global: the UNECE Water Convention spreads its message on cooperation’, appears in the February 2013 edition of Water21, the magazine of the International Water Association. The article highlights progress towards the UNECE Water Convention opening to States globally. Work on climate change adaptation is set to form one of the first areas for global activity under the Convention. The article also looks at the anticipated role of the Convention’s new Implementation Committee, and at the need for cooperation between the Convention and the 1997 New York Water Convention.

The article follows on from last November’s Meeting of the Parties of the Convention held in Rome. It includes interviews with Francesca Bernardini, Secretary to the Convention, and Professor Attila Tanzi. Professor Tanzi has been head of the Convention’s Legal Board and has led the creation of the Implementation Committee, which he has now joined.
