Opportunity to contribute to SIDS publication

One of the sustainable development goals to be reviewed during the meeting of the high-level political forum on sustainable development in 2018 is goal 6, “Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.” Water has always been a very important issue for Small Island Developing States (SIDS), and paragraphs 64-65 of the SAMOA Pathway cover this area. Therefore, the theme for the first 2018 issue of SIDS TIMES, “The Cowrie”, will focus on water and sanitation. The December issue may be downloaded from at https://drive.google.com/file/d/15Qw-3PTOn5c9xgepfyf_Ej1gfELnmfjo/view .

AIDA members may contribute to this publication, which is produced through the SIDS unit in the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs, by expressing their interest, in advance, to Ms Eun Hee Lee (eunhee.lee@un.org).

The theme will cover topics and areas such as (a) safe drinking water; (b) sanitation and hygiene; (c) water quality including treatment of wastewater (d) increasing water scarcity (e) integrated waste resource management; (f) protect and restore water ecosystems (g) support and strengthen the participation of local communities in improving water and sanitation management; and (g) other issues, such as water financing, drought, etc.

The guidelines for contributors are as follows:

1) The articles, which can be either a think piece, opinion piece or factual report should not exceed 1,200 words and include at least one picture, if possible (with explanations, permission to use and credits, if applicable), and with resolutions of 1MB or higher.  Please also include title, position, organization and contact details of the writer(s) to whom the articles will be credited. For any other inputs (recent activities, upcoming events, new publication and partnerships etc.) the word limit is 300 words.
