At the 8th World Water Forum, which was held at Brasilia on 18-23 March, 2018, the Conference of Judges and Prosecutors on Water Justice approved the “Brasilia Declaration of Judges on Water Justice”. The Declaration is the result of three days of discussions, where more than 50 senior judges and prosecutors from around the world joined together with diplomats, experts, and other leaders in the field to address current challenges to the utilization, management, and protection of all forms of freshwater resources. In addition to multiple panel discussions involving over 130 speakers, a special session addressed developments toward possible negotiation of the Global Pact for the Environment under the auspices of the United Nations General Assembly. The Declaration may be retrieved from https://www.iucn.org/sites/dev/files/content/documents/brasilia_declaration_of_judges_on_water_justice_21_march_2018_final_as_approved_0.pdf and is also available for download on the conference webpage at https://www.iucn.org/commissions/world-commission-environmental-law/events/brasilia-declaration-judges-water-justice-adopted-8th-world-water-forum-19-21-march-2018.
