COVID-19: Global Workshop on the Development of Transboundary Water Cooperation Agreements or other Arrangements

As explained in a previous post, in March 2020 the UNECE Global Workshop on the Development of Transboundary Water Cooperation Agreements or other Arrangements was postponed to 28-29 July 2020, due to serious health concerns linked to the outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). As of June 2020, the coronavirus crisis remains unpredictable and there are still many uncertainties on how things will evolve in the near future in many regions of the world. This renders the organization of a physical meeting challenging, including with respect to ensuring that the necessary health measures are in place to contain health risks and to arranging for participation and travel bookings. Therefore, the decision was taken to hold on 28-29 July 2020 the Virtual Workshop on designing legal frameworks for transboundary water cooperation. This will be a more targeted workshop, tailored to assist in the design and drafting of agreements or other arrangements and to support the preparation of a checklist on developing legal frameworks for transboundary water cooperation. The Virtual Workshop will take stock of existing experience with drafting and design worldwide, understand existing challenges and gather lessons learned.  It will also include a special thematic session on addressing health issues in transboundary water cooperation. The programme for the Virtual Workshop will soon be available on the dedicated webpage <https://www.unece.org/index.php?id=52790>.

In terms of organizational matters, further technical information will be available in due course. For the moment,
