International Environmental Law Conference, Oslo, 3-6 October, 2022

The IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law, together with the Faculty of Law at the University of Oslo and many international and national partners, are organizing the 2022 Oslo International Environmental Law Conference at Oslo, Norway, on 3-6 October, 2022. 

The theme of the conference is: “The Transformative Power of Law: Addressing Global Environmental Challenges

The conference marks the 2022 anniversaries of major multilateral environmental agreements and declarations, ranging from the 50th anniversary of the Stockholm Declaration to the 30th anniversary of the Rio Declaration, 40 years of UNCLOS, and 30 years of CBD, UNFCCC and UNCCD. It aims at looking ahead and investigates the role and power of law to bring about the transformative changes needed within this decade to address the triple global crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution.

The 2022 Oslo International Environmental Law Conference invites students, academics and researchers, policy makers, civil servants, legal practitioners, diplomats, members of the judiciary and of law enforcement and other relevant stakeholders to reflect on the importance of law for this decade to bring about transformative changes.

The conference will be held at the University of Oslo, Faculty of Law, Karl Johans gate 25, Oslo, Norway. Possibilities for virtual participation, as well as simultaneous translations into English, French and Spanish during the plenary sessions will be provided.
